Are you thinking about hosting a paint and sip party, or maybe even starting your own sip and paint business? If so, there are a lot of things that you will need to consider, including all of the supplies that are necessary for one of these painting classes.
Did you know that there are at least 1,000 paint and sip businesses in North America? If you are thinking about starting your own sip and paint business, don’t let this number scare you.
There is always room for more artists in this world. Art makes the world more beautiful, and there are plenty of niches that you can fill to accomplish your goals.
Today we are going to take a look at all of the materials you will need for your first painting party. Are you ready? Let’s go!
What Goes On at Paint and Sip Parties?
More and more people are hosting paint and sip parties, both in their homes and at artists’ studios. This is a great way for people to come together and have fun, and it is a perfect idea for special celebrations.
I’ve seen many people hosting these events for bachelorette parties, birthday parties, graduation parties, anniversaries, and just about any other special event you can think of. There is always an excuse to celebrate something, and paint and sip is a great way to get everyone together.
There are two main components to a paint and sip party: painting and sipping on wine, hence the name, paint and sip. In most cases, either the party host or the artist provides the wine and the painting supplies.
The Artist Sets Everything Up
One of the great things about hosting a sip and paint night is that the host doesn’t need to do a lot. Their job is to make space (if the party isn’t taking place at an art studio) and set up a food and drink area.
Each of the art stations is set up by the artist. They will make sure that every painter has everything that they need to complete their masterpieces.
At the end of the event, the artist will pack up all of the unused materials, so there is very little cleanup for the party host.
Learn How to Paint
The artist instructor will walk everyone through all of the steps to create a beautiful painting. In many cases, everyone will be working with acrylic paints.
In most cases, the artist will have already created a painting for each of the participants to go by. Budding artists will learn about various painting techniques, including blending and color mixing, and they will also learn about brush strokes, how to clean brushes, and a whole lot more.
Supplies Needed for Paint and Sip Parties
Whether the paint and sip party is in a host’s home or at an artist’s studio, the supplies needed will be pretty much the same. Let’s take a look at all of the items you will need to pull off an awesome paint and sip event.
#1. Tables and Chairs
Before you begin thinking about the food, wine, and art supplies for your paint night, you need to figure out where everyone is going to sit and work on their paintings.
There should be at least one large table. If there are a lot of guests attending, you may need to set up two or three tables so there is enough space for everyone to work on their paintings, and make sure there is a chair for each person.
#2. Set Up a Teaching Area
You will also need to make sure that there is an area where the art instructor can easily move around to demonstrate various painting techniques. I like to have a small table to display the original painting, as well as another small table to work at and a chair (although I am moving around most of the time to help each artist throughout the painting process).
#3. Tablecloths
You will also need to have tablecloths to protect the furniture. I always hit up my local dollar store for those cheap, plastic tablecloths. There will likely be at least a few spills throughout the event, so you won’t feel bad if a $2 tablecloth gets ruined and needs to be thrown away.
I like to keep these tablecloths for other parties. Who cares if they already have paint on them? As long as they aren’t ripped and don’t have holes, they can be reused over and over again.
#4. Art Supplies
Many of the art supplies you will need for a painting party can be found at most dollar stores, as well as department stores and art supplies stores. Some supplies will be more costly, but these can be used over and over again. These include:
- Easels (tabletop or standing)
- Reusable aprons or other clothing protectors
- Paint palettes
- Wine glasses
- Paint brushes (if you are going to be hosting or teaching many parties, invest in some decent quality brushes that can be used many times)
In addition to the above reusable items, there are also items that you will probably have to purchase for each class. You can probably get away with using the same set of paints for two or three parties, but you will need to get more eventually. Other art supplies you will need for the paint and sip party include:
- One canvas per guest
- One water cup per person (have more on hand if they are needed)
- One bottle of liquid soap per class
- Paper towels, rags, etc. (one or two per person)
#5. Food and Drink
Finally, you need to think about what you are going to serve to your guests. I always suggest having at least one or two bottles of wine per person.
This can get quite costly, so you may want to consider making your party a BYOB event.
Food items should be simple. I usually tell people to set out finger foods, such as cheese and crackers, veggie trays, meatballs on sticks, etc.
Conclusion
The more effort you put into setting up a paint and sip party, the more you and your guests are going to enjoy the event. Take some time to think about what everyone likes to eat, and what kind of wine your guests will enjoy.
Hire a professional artist like myself to guide the class through each step of the painting process. When all is said and done, everyone will have had a terrific time, and they will have a cool painting to show for their efforts.
